#NationalApprenticeshipWeek #NAW2024 #SKILLSFORLIFE
3R projects led by Managing Director Mark Chapman, is championing the apprentice opportunities available for young people and businesses to strive into the future. He reflects below on how his own career, which started as an Electrical Apprentice, this #NationalApprenticeshipWeek (5 – 11 February 2024).
Mark, straight out of school at the age of 16 started his 4-year Electrical Apprenticeship with a Staffordshire-based company, that specialised in commercial electrical projects. Hands on, Mark learnt on the job from his team mates with formal assessments both on site and in the classroom. After completing the 4 year apprenticeship and successfully passing the Inspection and Testing course, he became an approved electrician.
He stayed with the company that provided his apprenticeship for a total of 17 years, taking on more responsibility, managing bigger commercial projects and eventually teams on site of up to 25 people.
In 2018, Mark decided to go self-employed and successfully built up a network of fellow tradespeople across different industries and an substantial client list. Spurred by his experience and connections he spread his wings to create 3R projects in 2020. Three years on 3R employees more than 20 staff and has proudly delivered some impressive contracts across the UK.
When thinking back to his apprenticeship years, Mark fondly remembers, “I enjoyed learning new skills on the job and applying what I’d learned to new situations. Working as a team really suited me, and I learned a lot by being in a team, and i really did enjoy the banter! I feel that even when you choose an apprenticeship today, you’ll learn a job skill for life and if you have the right commitment and attitude there will always be work for you! You have to commit to being an Apprentice, it’s hard work and when you’re 16/17 years of age, 4 years feels like a long time, but I’d encourage youngsters to do it, as the long-term returns are really worthwhile and every day you’re building a brighter future for yourself.”
And now, at 3r Projects we’re continuing to build an apprenticeship legacy, to generate experienced tradespeople for the future. Currently, we have 5 apprentices, who are experiencing and earning while they’re learning electrical, multi-trade and business administration #skillsforlife.
We are always interested to hear from prospective apprentices, so get in touch if you want to be part of our next generation workforce.
